| NINE TIMES Wake up and smell the coffee, Mrs. Bueller. The New York Football Giants sacked Jay Cutler nine times. Nine times. In the first half. One of the nine caused the concussion that caused Todd Collins to start the second half. (And Collins himself didn't even make it a full half, which meant that something called Caleb Hanie finished up under center for Chicago in the 17-3 loss.) Cutler will get checked out Monday morning, but regardless of what happens Monday night between the Patriots and Dolphins (8:30 ET on ESPN), one thing is certain. There's only one undefeated team left in the whole NFL, and we call them the Kansas City Chiefs. Yep. How's your suicide pool going?

| FRIARS TUCKED Sunny side up. The San Francisco Baseball Giants blanked the Padres 3-0. They win the NL West and return to the postseason for the first time since 2003. Over. Easy. The Padres went down without much of a fight, getting shut out by the Giants 3-0, and getting shut out of the postseason as a result. San Diego spent 147 days in first place in the NL West this year, which means it's the fourth-straight year that a team led its division for at least that long and missed the playoffs (see also: 2009 Tigers - 165 days, 2008 Diamondbacks - 158 days, 2007 Mets - 159 days). But before 2007, not a single team missed the playoffs in a season that they were in first place for at least 147 days since - wait for it - the 1969 Cubs and their 156 days atop the NL East.

| PRINCES OF WALES The first Monday finish ever at the Ryder Cup is underway at Celtic Manor in Wales. Europe led the USA!USA!USA! 9.5-6.5 when singles play started around 4:00 am ET. Only thrice since 1961 has a Ryder Cup winner trailed entering singles play. But twice it was the USA!USA!USA! that did it - in 1999 at Brookline and in 1993 at The Belfry. And 1993 was also the last time the USA!USA!USA! won on European soil. Which is to say grass. And take heart - the deficit at Brookline was 10-6 entering singles.

| KICK IT Also o'er the pond, Kobe Bryant made it o'er to Stamford Bridge in London yesterday, and took in Chelsea's 2-nil take-down of Arsenal. But he didn't make it onto the practice court, opting instead to do some rehab work on the side as his mates went through a scrimmage ahead of their preseason opener against the Timberwolves this afternoon at the O2 Arena (3:00 ET). Kobe says he expects to play in the game, since he has "a sense of responsibility" to showcase his skills for a foreign crowd eager to embrace a global superstar. Which reminds me, David Beckham scored his first goal in more than a year yesterday for LA's Galaxy.

| 59 | Josh Scobee kicked a 59-yard field goal as time expired to give the Jaguars a 31-28 win over the Colts. That's the third-longest walk-off field goal in NFL history, because Matt Bryant of the Bucs connected from 62 yards out to beat the Eagles in 2006, and Tom Dempsey of the Saints booted a 63-yarder to beat the Lions in 1970. Of course, Dempsey was born without toes on his kicking foot and so he wore a special, modified shoe. Did that give him an advantage? Who knows? But know this - seven years after that kick, the league passed the Tom Dempsey Rule, which says that "any shoe that is worn by a player with an artificial limb on his kicking leg must have a kicking surface that conforms to that of a normal kicking shoe." | +8 | Greg Biffle won at Kansas. Good for him. Better was Jimmie Johnson, who finished second behind Biffle, and so returned to the top of the Sprint Cup standings. He's up by 8 over Denny Hamlin. In four of the past six years of the Chase, the points leader after the third Chase race went on to win the title. Of course, in each of the last four years, Johnson went on to win the title. (Last year, Johnson was second after the third race.) Read | Watch |
| 211, .198 | Mark Reynolds didn't play for the Diamondbacks on last day of the season. For better or worse. ( For better and worse?) Reynolds finished his 2010 season with more strikeouts (211) than points on his batting average (.198). Since 1900, no non-pitcher with more than 35 at-bats in a season had ever done that. Rob Deer of the '91 Tigers came the closest (.179 BA with 175 K). Mark Reynolds | Rob Deer |

| "I told him right before he got hurt, don't take no hits like that. We can't afford you taking hits." Michael Vick does not listen, at least to DeSean Jackson. If he did, he wouldn't be getting ready for an MRI this morning. Live updates from Philadelphia on his condition on SportsCenter starting at 9:00 am ET. Read | "I never said I want to play for the Nets." Carmelo Anthony is still a Nugget, and on a personal level, says that he's only as marketable as long as he's a winner. So does that mean he would want a trade to the Nets, who won all of 12 games last season? Read |
