| FAST DON'T LIE, BUT STATS SURE DO Derrick Rose of the Bulls used his freaky first step (freaky like my lady pyramid) to slip into to the lane and throw one down on Danilo Gallinari, and throw him into his place in history alongside Patrick Ewing (courtesy of Michael Jordan) and Patrick Ewing (courtesy of Scottie Pippen) and Horace Grant (and Michael Jordan, kind of, courtesy of John Starks) at the bottom of great posters of dunks in the Bulls-Knicks rivarly. But a dunk is only worth two points, which is 67% of what shots from distance are worth. And so Rose found himself on the bench in the fourth quarter as the Knicks held on for a 120-112 win in Chicago on the strength of 67% shooting from behind the arc (on 24 attempts). That's against a Bulls team that had allowed just 18% shooting from behind the arc to start the season. (That had been the best mark in the NBA.) Rose will get off the bench tonight to face Rajon Rondo and the Celtics, as his coach Tom Thibodeau returns to Boston.

| PAR FOR THE COURSE World No. 2 Tiger Woods shot a 72 in round No. 2 at the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, and that left him five shots back of the leader (meet Francesco Molinari, if you didn't after round No. 1) at 4-under. World No. 1 Lee Westwood is one shot back of the lead at 8-under. Keep in mind this weekend that this is Tiger's last chance to win a TOUR event this year. And if he doesn't win, it will be his first season as a professional golfing person that he failed to win a TOUR event. Also keep in mind this weekend to set your clocks back an hour. (Except for you, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and the parts of Arizona not under the control of the Navajo Nation.)

| NEWTON'S LAWBREAKER? A man who claims that he represented Auburn's Cam Newton during the quarterback's recruitment out of junior college last year allegedly sought payments in the range of $200,000 to secure Newton's signature on a national letter-of-intent. Former Mississppi State quarterback John Bond told ESPN.com that a teammate of his contacted him after Newton's official visit to Mississippi State in December and told him it would "take some cash" to land Newton. Sources told ESPN.com that the former teammate is Kenny Rogers (not the gambler and not the perfect game pitcher but) the player at Mississippi State from 1982-85 who now operates Elite Football Preparation, which matches high school athletes with college programs. Newton's father, Cecil, denied any wrongdoing, telling ESPN.com, "If Rogers tried to solicit money from Mississippi State, he did it on his own, without our knowledge." Meanwhile, Bond said Mississippi State reported the matter to the SEC, and that he did not know what happened in regards to Auburn's recruitment of Newton. But Auburn coach Gene Chizik said on his radio show Thursday night that he knows exactly what happened. "I will say this, very loud and very clear," he said, very loud and very clear. "Cameron Newton is eligible at Auburn University. Period. End of story." The NCAA declined comment.

| BEANIE NOT SO WELLS Orthovisc is something that lubricates a sore knee like oil. Unlike oil, it's injected directly into the sore knee and injected commonly into sore knees around the NFL. It's uncommon for one of those sore knees to swell up afterward due to an alergic reaction, unless apparently if one of those knees belongs to Cardinals running back Beanie Wells. It was less swollen yesterday, but if he's to play this Sunday at Minnesota, he'll need to impress coach Ken Whisenhunt at practice today.

| 500,000 | The San Francisco Giants won the World Series thanks, in part, to World Series MVP Edgar Renteria. That was four days ago. Yesterday, the club declined to exercise its $9.5 million option on him for next season, and thanked him for his service with a $500,000 buyout. Read More |
| 90 | David Wilson returned a kickoff 90 yards for the go-ahead TD with under 2:30 to play as Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech in Blacksburg. The good news for the Hokies is that they've now won 7 straight games after losing their first 2 of the season, and are a perfect 5-0 in conference. The better news is that the winner of this game has gone on to represent the Coastal Division in the ACC Championship game every year in the Championship game's existence. (And that game has existed every single year since 2005.) Recap | SportsCenter Highlight of the Night |
| 600 | NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup is down to the final three races. And the top three drivers -- Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick -- are separated by only 38 points. It's the closest three-way battle in Chase history. And to mark the occasion this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, officials will employ two trained capuchin monkeys to sell race programs. You can call them Miki and Rocky, but don't call them Jocko Flocko. He was the monkey who got loose inside the car of a race in 1953, and cost the driver second place and $600 extra dollars in his paycheck. Miki and Rocky | Jocko |

We just got to get it started." Roy Williams thinks the Cowboys can run the table. His Dallas Cowboys. Read More | "I want to be on the float and I want to get my ring."
