| BIG LITTLE NO D Now that a 45-7 loss to the Packers is in the books, these 2010 Cowboys have given up a whopping 232 points through eight games so far this season. That's the most points any Cowboys have given up through eight games of any season since the 1989 Cowboys matched that 232 exactly. Those Cowboys started 0-8 under Jimmy Johnson (under Jerry Jones) and finished 1-15 under Jimmy Johnson (under Jerry Jones). These Cowboys started 1-7 under Wade Phillips, but will he be finished before they are finished? "There are a lot of people here who are certainly going to suffer and suffer consequences," said Jerry Jones. "I'm talking about within the team -- players, coaches who have got careers. This is certainly a setback...I can't put my finger on it because I don't have enough fingers... I think everybody in this country would agree that there's a lot wrong with this team that we've got to address, and I'm certainly the one to address it." Uh-oh.

| BITTER The rivalry between the Steelers and Bengals renews tonight, because tonight is Monday night, and that means Monday Night Football (8:30 ET on ESPN). And because past is prologue: - Remember the 2005 Wild Card playoff On the second offensive play, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer had his knee shattered by Steelers defensive end Kim von Oelhoffen. The Steelers went on to win the game and went on to win the Super Bowl. - Remember the Steelers victory parade after winning Super Bowl XL Steelers coach Bill Cowher got the crowd going by chanting "Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat the NFL? Pittsburgh Steelers, world champs!" (Now remember that for more than 30 years, Bengals crowds got going by chanting "Who dey! Who dey! Who dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?" Also remember that they named their mascot Who Dey. Who Dey, the bengal tiger.) - Remember Week 7 of the 2008 season Hines Ward crushed Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers with a hit that broke his (Rivers') jaw and knocked him (Rivers) out for the season. (Now remember that the next year, the NFL adopted a rule that made that hit illegal.) - Remember Week 3 of the 2009 Season Ohio native Ben Roethlisberger had never lost on the road to an Ohio-based team until this game when the Bengals won 23-20. Then remember that in Week 10, the Bengals won again and swept the Steelers for the first time since 1998. Dig it.

| STAND IN THE PLACE WHERE YOU WORK Now face West The freshest BCS Standings are in, and the top of it looks a lot like the top of stale standings from last week we just threw out. Because for the first time this season, the order of the Top 4 hasn't changed. (Drum roll... 4 Boise State, 3 TCU, 2 Auburn, 1 Oregon, cymbal crash.) Nebraska was the only team in the Top 10 to win Saturday and move down in standings (see: 7th to 8th). Stanford (see: 6th) is up to its highest BCS position in school history this week with a jump up from 13th. And Utah dropped nine spots (see: 14th), which made it the second straight week that the 5th-ranked team dropped nine spots (see: 14th).

| EIGHT IS (ALMOST) ENOUGH Denny Hamlin entered the season with eight career wins in four full NSCS seasons. The same Denny Hamlin who just left Texas with his eighth win of this season and the points lead in the Chase. And in Chase history, no driver has ever overcome a points deficit with two races to go. And in the history of the modern points era (see: since 1975), only two drivers have won a championship when trailing with two races to go. Not good news for Jimmie Johnson, who changed out his pit crew midrace. Which wasn't good news for Jeff Gordon, since it was his crew, since he was in an ambulance with Jeff Burton, since those two got into a shoving match on the track. Wait, what?

| 446 | The Vikings overcame a 24-10 deficit in the final 4 minutes of the fourth quarter and then scored in overtime for a 27-24 victory over the Cardinals. It was the first time in team history that Minnesota won a game after trailing by 14 or more points with less than 4 minutes to play. In fact, no NFL team had won like that the Colts rallied late for a 38-35 overtime win at Tampa in 2003. And meant that Brett Favre set a career high with 446 passing yards. Seventy-three different players have passed for at least 400 yards in an NFL win, including Don Horn (1969 Packers), Tim Rattay (2004 49ers), and Matthew Stafford as a rookie last season for the Lions. But until yesterday, Brett Favre hadn't. His only previous 400-yard performance came in a loss to the Bears in 1993 (see: 402 yards). Recap | Highlights | Turnaround or Mirage? |
| 2 | Ndamukong Suh (the healthy Lions defensive tackle) came in for Jason Hanson (the injured Lions kicker) and missed an extra point in the third quarter. The last Lion to attempt an extra point who wasn't (technically) a kicker or a punter was Jim O'Brien in 1973 at Chicago. (But to be fair, O'Brien was technically a wide receiver and a kicker.) Meanwhile, over in Cleveland, Wes Welker (the healthy Patriots wide receiver) came in for Stephen Gostkowski (the injured Patriots kicker) and made an extra point. It was the first time that two guys who weren't technically kickers tried to kick an extra point on the same day since September 9, 1979. Raise your hand if you remember Cliff Olander (QB) of the Chargers and Tony Galbreath (RB) of the Saints. (Hands down.) Jets-Lions | Patriots-Browns |
| 11/8/1978 | Today is 11/8/2010. On 11/8/1978, the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets started a game that ended on 3/23/1979. That's because the final 17:50 needed to be replayed because a protest was upheld. The fun part is that Harvey Catchings and Ralph Simpson started that game for the 76ers, while Eric Money and Al Skinner started it for the Nets. But they were all traded for each other before the game resumed in March. And so it's the only time in the history of professional sports that any player played for both teams in the same game. | "Who was that? Is that the blind girl? Helen Keller ... I don't know who the [expletive deleted] Anne Frank is. I'm mad right now. ... I'm not as swift as I usually am." Channing Crowder was not as swift as he usually his because he was fuming over having Le'Ron McClain (allegedly) spit in his face. Read More | "Something has to change around Cowboy land.
