| GREAT WALL, OOF CHINA --- On Veteran's Day Eve, rookie John Wall danced his way to his first career triple-double in a Wizards win over the Rockets. In fact, a quick look at the box score will tell you that he finished just 4 steals shy of a quadruple-double (see: 19 points, 13 assists, 10 rebounds, 6 steals). And he did all of that while turning the ball over only once while playing the whole 42 minutes (right, Zach Randolph?). And he did all of that before Magic Johnson (who was in the crowd) and before Magic Johnson (who was exactly 20 years and 75 days old when he got his first NBA triple double). Wall was exactly 20 years and 65 days old last night, which means the only guys in NBA history to get their first triple-double at a younger age were (are?) Lamar Odom (20 years and 54 days) and LeBron James (20 years and 20 days, and then another one just three days later).
--- Meanwhile, seven minutes into the game, Yao Ming went down with a leg injury, left the court, and never came back. The Houston Chronicle is calling it a strained tendon and not calling it serious. Still, at this point, it's hard to believe that Yao was a virtual iron man over his first three NBA seasons. He played 193 consecutive games to start his career, and 266 of a possible 268 regular-season games through December of 2005. But since then, he's played only 56% of Houston's games (220 of 395). And over that span, Houston has won 10% more games with him on the floor (137-83, 62.3%) than with him off of it (91-84, 52.0%).

| CELTICS VS HEAT 2, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO Round 1 came on Opening Night in Boston, and didn't live up to the hype. At least not for Miami, which had just nine points in the first quarter, just 30 points in the first half, and an 8-point loss in the end. "Sorry if everyone thought we were going to go 82-0," offered Dwyane Wade. Apology accepted. In fact, the Heat have alternated wins and losses over their last four games (including their last one, when they blew a 22-point lead in an overtime loss to the Jazz), and come into Round 2 tonight in Miami (8:00 ET) at 5-3 -- a full game behind the 6-2 Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

| MERRYLAND The Terps nearly got tripped up by the College of Charleston at home in College Park. But they didn't because they got a game-winner from true freshman Pe'Shon Howard with three whole seconds left that turned a one-point loss into a one-point win. It was just his second career collegiate game, yet he only missed one shot of the seven shots he took from the floor. Yet he only made one of the five he took from the charity stripe. In fact, Maryland went 5-18 from the line, while Charleston went 16-19. Still, would an upset by the Cougars really have been much of an upset? At least in the ACC? Maybe you're nodding your head, but these same Cougars beat then-No. 9 North Carolina last season, and they're coached by Bobby Cremins. The same Bobby Cremins who coached Georgia Tech to two regular season ACC titles and three ACC Tournament titles and was named ACC Coach of the Year three times.

| THURSDAY NIGHT NFL Maybe your fantasy team is terrible this year. And maybe the only thing good about it is Roddy White. And maybe it's a keeper league, and so maybe you're getting trade offers left and right for White. Should you sell high and stockpile other keepers? Maybe. Who knows? (Wait, maybe Matthew Berry knows - what time does he get in?) Anyway, all you need to know is that NFL Week 10 kicks off tonight when White's Falcons host the Ravens in a battle of birds at the Georgia Dome. (You also might need to know that White is questionable with a knee injury.) Meanwhile, Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan is 17-1 at home as a starter, including 13 straight. That's the second-longest active home winning streak behind Tom Brady's 24.

| 0 for 100+ million | Ilya Kovalchuk is New Jersey's $100M man, and just the guy that Devils fans want taking the shot in the shootout that could have given them their first home win of the season. Except that Kovalchuk did this, and must have felt a lot like how... ...Dennis Wideman felt on February 2, 2006... ...Anton Stralman felt on November 28, 2009... ...Patrick Eaves felt on March 27, 2010... ...Henrik Sedin felt on January 7, 2007. And so the Devils extend their home winless streak to seven games. And that's their longest-ever home winless streak to start a season, including when they called Kansas City and Colorado home. | 30 | Former NFL player David Meggett has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after his conviction in South Carolina on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary. The case involved an encounter with a college student at her house in January of last year. Meggett played six years with the New York Giants, three years with the New England Patriots, and one year with the New York Jets. He never took the stand in his own defense, and his lawyer said he will appeal. Read More |
| 75 | Dave Niehaus, who was behind the mic for the very first pitch in Mariners history (and each of the 34 seasons since then) has died at the age of 75. He received the Ford C. Frick Award in 2008 and was inducted into the broadcasters' wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame. His trademark calls included "My, oh my" and "It will fly away" and his best one might just have come a little over a year ago, when he teamed up with Mike Blowers on the first career home run for Matt Tuiasosopo. | "I didn't want to show how excited I was at the time; it would've been unprofessional to do a dance in his office. I couldn't get out of Berea [Ohio] fast enough." Before Cleveland had and lost LeBron James, Cleveland had and lost Braylon Edwards. And Edwards couldn't have been happier about that, and says he's ready to wage a "personal war" with the Dawg Pound when he returns to Cleveland for the first time this weekend as a New York Jet. Read More | "Kevin Garnett will not -- will not -- get a Christmas gift from me...He's a very mean guy...Where's the love? None at all. Ugly, too." Joakim Noah of the Bulls doesn't seem to like Kevin Garnett of the Celtics very much. Read More |
