Description: Image removed by sender. imageUNCLINCHABLE
Just like
Australia's Next Top Model, the NL West is hard to clinch. Tim Lincecum gave up a lead-off home run for the first time in his career. The Diamondbacks gave up after that. Lincecum struck out 11 in the 3-1 win - his 26th career game with double-digit strikeouts. Only Jason Schmidt (27) and Christy Mathewson (28) had more for the Giants since 1900. Meanwhile, the Padres blanked the Cubs 3-0. It's their 20th shutout of the season - tied with the Phillies for the most in all of baseball. But they're still two games back, which means that the Giants can clinch a tie for the NL West title with a win over the Diamondbacks this afternoon (3:45 ET) and a Padres loss to the Cubs tonight (6:35 ET).

The Rangers sure picked a strange way to beat the Mariners. Mitch Moreland raced home with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after a wild pitch and a throwing error after Nelson Cruz struck out. It's something that's not often seen in the wild. In fact, it's been more than five years since
the Phillies used the walk-off strikeout to beat the Cubs. (Yep. That sounds about right.) It's like the Bigfoot of game-enders. But it's not the only one.

Undefeated Texas A&M visits undefeated Oklahoma State tonight (7:30 ET on ESPN). That's hardly a surprise. Not so much that they're both undefeated, but more that the game is in Stillwater, because the 3-0 Cowboys have played every single game at home so far this season. It's one of five games this week featuring two undefeated teams. For your clicking preview pleasure:
Texas A&M (3-0) at Oklahoma St (3-0)
No. 19 Michigan (4-0) at Indiana (3-0 ?!)
No. 11 Wisconsin (4-0) at No. 24 Michigan State (4-0)

Former North Carolina assistant football coach John Blake received several financial benefits from agent Gary Wichard, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. The transactions, which sources said occurred over the past three years, could become evidence in probes of alleged agent tampering involving the UNC program. Yahoo! also obtained copies of hotel bills that suggest a room used by UNC defensive tackle Marvin Austin was paid for by Wichard's agency. If investigators found that to be the case, Wichard could face felony charges in North Carolina. Austin is one of a dozen UNC players suspended as the NCAA continues its investigation into improper contact with agents and academic misconduct.

The Braves won their 90th game of the season, and so they kept their 1.5-game cushion over the aforementioned Padres in the NL wild card race. It's the 15th 90-win season in the final season for manager Bobby Cox. So he'll end his career trailing only the legendary Quick Draw John McGraw for most career 90-win seasons (16).

1347

The House has passed bill number 1347, which calls for the government to convene a conference of experts to create guidelines that address the issue of concussions in school-aged children. They would include standards for allowing children to return to play after suffering a concussion. The bill is one of several Congress is considering in response to evidence that improperly treated concussions can cause long-term physical and mental problems.

"It is a clear case of food contamination."

Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has tested positive for a small amount of clenbuterol, a banned substance. He's been suspended by cycling's governing body. He blames bad meat he ate. Twice.

"My wife is rolling with me...I'm the one out here shooting jump shots, running up and down the court. She understands what's going on. She's the star, she's in Hollywood, she's acting, she's got her own show, that's what she does."

Carmelo Anthony doesn't want you to assume that his offseason marriage to LaLa (Vazquez, not the Teletubby) is behind the push to get him out of Denver. She's rolling with him wherever he rolls. Except (probably) Dallas.
